1     QuickBooks - Do-It-Yourself Payroll     Cost $59

9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Baker Bentley Campus
This second session of the QuickBooks series covers how to setup to run payroll and payroll reports, track employee time, print paychecks, run W-2’s and W-3’s, and make direct deposits for your small business. Participants should already know the fundamentals of bookkeeping, including basic accounting terminology.

11     Credit Score Improvement     Cost: FREE

15     Intermediate QuickBooks 2006     Cost $79

This third session of the series continues with budget setup and reporting, customizing reports and invoices, security, setup for 1099’s, and verifying, condensing and archiving data. Participants should already know the fundamentals of bookkeeping, including basic accounting terminology and how to set up a company, a chart of accounts and run basic reports in QuickBooks.

18     Using Small Claims Court for Collections     Cost: FREE

Small Claims Court is a user-friendly, less intimidating and faster route to getting a money judgment on your accounts receivables. There is pending legislation in Lansing to raise the jurisdictional limit of Small Claims Court from $3,000 to $5,000. 66th District Court Attorney Magistrate Kevin McKay will give a presentation and answer questions on the procedures in Small Claims Court cases. Sometimes collection cases have complex legal issues require hiring an attorney, but most of the time you can represent yourself or your company in Small Claims Court to pursue collections of your accounts receivables. Come learn how to utilize Small Claims Court as a tool to increase your collections rate.

19     PIP: Expanding Your Business Through the World Wide Web     Cost $39

Are you ready to put your business on the World Wide Web? Who is on the web and what kind of successes are they having? Explore four main ways, including an introduction to eBay, to take your business national and even international! The growth rate of businesses on the web has been phenomenal!

25     Introduction to Adobe InDesign CS2     Cost: $109

10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Baker Tech Center 1623
Desktop publishing is big business! Though you can create flyers, brochures and newsletters with a variety of software programs, Adobe InDesign is the industry standard for creating files in the proper format for professional printing! In this hands-on workshop, you will learn about layout programs and the setup of InDesign; what typography is and how InDesign handles it; how InDesign handles graphics and images; and how Adobe InDesign puts it all together for a complete, professional document. Presenter Frank J. Abnet has an extensive background in graphic communications, and has taught art, photography and a variety of computer applications. In addition to being a school media specialist, he has been a freelance graphic designer and operated his own craft business.


26     Legal Issues for Human Resource Managers     Cost: $59

9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Bentley Room, Baker Bentley Campus
Examine the legal issues involved with hiring, retaining, training and terminating employees. This workshop will emphasize the necessary documentation to help prevent discrimination and harassment lawsuits, as well as include issues with the Family Medical Leave Act, COBRA and the Civil Rights Acts of 1964 and 1991.
Ms. Angela Barone, Core Faculty for Management and Marketing at Baker College of Owosso, has extensive work experience in human resources and employee relations and has facilitated courses such as management supervision, small business management, and human resource management. She has holds a Master of Science degree in Human Resource Administration from Central Michigan University.

12     e-Bay Basics – Starting Your Business    Cost: $79

Ready to put your business on the Internet? The new Profitability Improvement Programs (PIP) series offers this workshop for small businesses and entrepreneurs.
