Shiawassee County blends small-town charm with easy access to big city amenities. The county remains largely rural, with just 72,000 people and nearly 70% of land still used for agriculture. People are friendly and welcoming, the cost of living is low, and schools are high quality with small class sizes.
The countys central location (within a ninety minute drive of Ann Arbor, Detroit, Flint, Grand Rapids, Lansing and Saginaw) also allows for residents to have a multitude of education, entertainment and healthcare options.
Housing costs in Shiawassee County are substantially lower than surrounding areas, making the area a very affordable place to live. There are also a wide variety of housing options, from apartment complexes to condominiums to historic single-family homes (the City of Owosso has the second most historical homes in the State of Michigan).
